{"id":10210,"date":"2017-11-01T14:26:01","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T21:26:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=10210"},"modified":"2017-11-09T14:30:56","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T22:30:56","slug":"morse-elementary-gets-a-halloween-visit-from-dracula","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=10210","title":{"rendered":"Morse Elementary gets a Halloween visit from Dracula"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What a wonderful treat the students received on Halloween day at Morse Elementary!\u00a0 Students in preppy-K, kindergarten, and first grade attended a special presentation by &#8220;Dracula,&#8221; Mrs. Heather Reekstin.\u00a0 Mrs. Reekstin serves as an instructional coach for the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD).<\/p>\n<p>This assembly included a dramatization of the story, \u201c<em>Big Pumpkin,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0by Erica Silverman.\u00a0 In the story, a witch plants a pumpkin seed in anticipation of making pumpkin pie.\u00a0 However, the pumpkin grows and grows.\u00a0 The witch is not able to get it off the vine to make her pumpkin pie and has to resort to allowing others to help her.\u00a0 In the end, the witch learns that allowing others to help and that with teamwork, things can be achieved.\u00a0 While Mrs. Reekstin acted out the story,\u00a0 the students participated in pulling and tugging and chanting along.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the dramatization, students sang and role-played \u201c<em>Looking for Dracula<\/em>\u201d by Charlotte Diamond.\u00a0\u00a0 The students were actively participating by singing and dancing while learning new vocabulary words.\u00a0 The assembly concluded with the students singing \u201c<em>Witches\u2019 Brew\u201d<\/em> while using realia to enhance the story.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What a wonderful treat the students received on Halloween day at Morse Elementary!\u00a0 Students in preppy-K, kindergarten, and first grade attended a special presentation by&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":10211,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[1168],"tags":[63,1538],"class_list":["post-10210","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-elementary-school","tag-morse-elementary-school","tag-morse-wildcats"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10210","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=10210"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10210\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/10211"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=10210"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=10210"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=10210"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
