From there, they built their own bottle rockets which launched into the air and ejected a prototype lander which housed a raw egg. Their objective was to land the egg “cargo” safely back on the ground.

The final part of the project was to create a professional business presentation with the goal of trying to obtain investment money to build their lander full-scale. Students presented to a panel of judges “Shark Tank” style. Several of the judges were community members ranging from entrepreneurs, to a Boeing rocket and satellite contractor, to a general counsel for a Fortune 500 company.

Travis Ranch School eighth grade science students recently participated in the “Mission to Mars” project to culminate their study of Forces and Motion.
