{"id":11430,"date":"2018-02-22T15:05:32","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T23:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=11430"},"modified":"2018-02-23T11:24:58","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T19:24:58","slug":"valencia-yorba-linda-high-school-students-selected-as-national-merit-finalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=11430","title":{"rendered":"Valencia, Yorba Linda students selected as National Merit Finalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nine\u00a0students from the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD), representing both\u00a0Valencia and\u00a0Yorba Linda high schools, have been named National Merit Scholarship Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).<\/p>\n<p>These students are among the top .5 percent of the 1.6 million program entrants in the nation. To become a finalist, the semifinalist and his or her high school submitted a detailed scholarship application in which they provided information about the semifinalist\u2019s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.<\/p>\n<p>All winners of the Merit Scholarship awards are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments throughout their lives without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin or religious preference.
