On Saturday, May 5, 36 students from 4th, 5th and 6th grade, along with their parents and teachers from Tynes Elementary School in Placentia descended on Jeffrey Trails Middle School in Irvine, California.\u00a0Everyone\u00a0arrived well prepared to compete against 20 other Orange County schools in the 4th annual Orange County Department of Education Science Olympiad. All of the school’s collaboration, research, and hard work was worth it, as both of Tynes’ teams were awarded gold medals for the second year in a row!<\/p>\n

Students excelled in hands-on experiments which included crafting egg drop boxes, rubber band catapults, paper rockets, aerodynamics airplanes, and home energy boxes.\u00a0 Additional competitions included in depth of knowledge tests of Oceans & Seas, Trees & Leafs, Mystery Powders, Food for Thought & Nutrition, and Arthropods.<\/p>\n
