Foundation at October meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the Tuesday, October 9, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Board of Education meeting, two exemplary groups were recognized for recent outstanding achievements.<\/p>\n<p>The Board officially recognized Golden Elementary School for their newfound status of 2018 National Blue Ribbon School as designated by the U.S. Department of Education. In attendance to accept the award on behalf of the school was principal, Dr. Alison DeMark, recently retired principal, Roann Turk, assistant principal, Kristin McDonald, and the school\u2019s team of application writers including teachers Geri McBride, Michelle Woinarowicz, Terri Hanna, Gloria Johnson, and Kristi Cooan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncredibly, Golden was the only school in Orange County to receive this award, and one of just twelve throughout the state of California,\u201d shared deputy superintendent Candy Plahy. \u201cIn total, only 300 public and 49 private schools nationwide received this matching distinction for 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13911\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Board-of-Education-Meeting-10-9-18-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13911\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13911\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Board-of-Education-Meeting-10-9-18-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Golden's staff members accompanied by the Board of Education.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Board-of-Education-Meeting-10-9-18-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Board-of-Education-Meeting-10-9-18-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Board-of-Education-Meeting-10-9-18-3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Board-of-Education-Meeting-10-9-18-3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Golden&#8217;s staff members accompanied by the Board of Education.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition, Trustees\u00a0set aside time to celebrate the R.E.A.C.H. Foundation\u2019s 7-year anniversary. Made up of a team of dedicated volunteers, R.E.A.C.H. is an education focused, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in benefit of PYLUSD students district-wide.<\/p>\n<p>Under the direction of president, Julie Nibali, R.E.A.C.H. supports academic, athletic, and art-based programs in PYLUSD by coordinating fundraising efforts such as the ShamRock \u2018n Run and the annual Brighter Future Donation campaign. The groups\u2019 efforts afford PYLUSD students the chance to participate in enjoyable, educational competitions such as the R.E.A.C.H. Spelling Bee and the Middle School Track Meet.
