These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $32 million that will be offered next spring.<\/p>\n<p>To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the District also had a large amount of <strong>2019\u00a0National Merit Commended Students<\/strong> for the school year. This includes 2 students from\u00a0El Dorado High School, 3 from Esperanza High School, 1 from Parkview School, 42 from Valencia High School, and 8 from Yorba Linda High School. recognized for their exceptional academic promise.
