The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District\u00a0(PYLUSD) is proud to announce\u00a0that 14 seniors have\u00a0qualified as 2019 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists<\/strong>. Here they are:<\/p>\n

From Valencia High School<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the ten students are\u00a0Sienna Bishop, Daniel Detchev, Andrew Huh, Caitlin Lee, Curtis Liu, Lauren Mard, Nicole Park, Jackie Pierce, Bryce Tsuyuki, and Adelina Woltkamp.<\/p>\n

Yorba Linda High School<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0had four students including Aino Hakkinen, Blake Han, Isaiah Seo, and Andrew Song.<\/p>\n

Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 64th\u00a0annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $32 million that will be offered next spring.<\/p>\n

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.<\/p>\n

In addition, the District also had a large amount of 2019\u00a0National Merit Commended Students<\/strong> for the school year. This includes 2 students from\u00a0El Dorado High School, 3 from Esperanza High School, 1 from Parkview School, 42 from Valencia High School, and 8 from Yorba Linda High School. Here they are:<\/p>\n
