On Monday, December 10, Yorba Linda High School (YLHS) celebrated its ten year anniversary with a campus-wide birthday party! Current and former students and staff, families, and community members gathered that day to help commemorate the school reaching its decade milestone.<\/p>\n

After beginning construction in April 2007, the school first opened its doors in September 2009 to freshman and sophomore-aged students. The first students to receive diplomas from the school were the graduating class of 2012.<\/p>\n

To help celebrate the school\u2019s short yet remarkable history, the library was transformed into a YLHS museum complete with large displays of photos from throughout the years and various pieces of memorabilia. This included old year books, spirit wear, student projects, and even materials from the school\u2019s construction. A large banner depicting the school\u2019s special ten year anniversary logo along with blue, crimson, and silver balloons also added to the festive feel on campus.<\/p>\n

\"Principal<\/a>

Principal Dave Flynn.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

The school\u2019s founding and present day principal, Dave Flynn, welcomed those in attendance and introduced honored guests including Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD)\u00a0Board of Education members, Superintendent Dr. Greg Plutko, Deputy Superintendent Candy Plahy, and officials from the City of Yorba Linda.<\/p>\n

Following Principal Flynn\u2019s introduction, attendees, students, and staff were treated to a combined performance of the school\u2019s Alma Mater by band and choir students. The song, written by the school\u2019s Director of Bands, Bincins Garcia, celebrates academics, athletics, and arts.<\/p>\n

In addition to Principal Flynn, speakers for the lunchtime ceremony included teachers Sarah Shay and Rey Lejano, as well as the school\u2019s ASB president, Lauren Bui. Each speaker shared unique details regarding the campus and the school they so proudly call their own.<\/p>\n

\u201cService, teamwork, achievement, mastery, passion, ethics, dedication, and excellence,\u201d shared Lejano. \u201cThose are the values that carried our Mustangs to success and achievement. Those are the values that, if you hold onto, will shine light along the path towards your dreams and a great future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ceremony ended with the crowd singing happy birthday, a symbolic ribbon cutting featuring Superintendent Plutko and Principal Flynn, and a huge blast of confetti!<\/p>\n

Congratulations on\u00a0a decade of running with the stampede, Mustangs!<\/p>\n
