Valencia High School was invited to participate in the first annual Orange County AVID National Demonstration School Collaborative on February 26, 2019. With only nine AVID National Demonstration Schools in Orange County, it was a unique opportunity to present and share best practices with over 70 participants ranging from Emerging Demonstration Schools to long-established Demonstration Schools.<\/p>\n

Traci Grove, AVID Program Manager, shared, “I have had the pleasure of getting to know all of you during your validations, and you truly are doing remarkable work surrounding the AVID College Readiness System. I appreciate your willingness to participate in the collaborative, and share your expertise with the AVID world. Not only will this event be beneficial to you, as you are able to learn from other amazing demonstration sites, but for all secondary AVID educators interested in deepening their implementation.”<\/p>\n

\"VHS<\/a>Principal Olivia Yaung and AVID Coordinator Corinna Harnett were able to share Valencia’s best practices surrounding the AVID elective, as well as furthering\u00a0the program schoolwide.<\/p>\n

Principal Yaung and AVID Counselor Elizabeth Nasouf were then able to host table conversations surrounding access and success, as demonstrated by dual enrollment in the school’s International Baccalaureate program or the Val Tech Academy, along with AVID and AP Honor Roll distinction.<\/p>\n

Valencia’s AVID Site Team, as well as District Director, Minerva Gandara, were present and thoughtfully engaged in the day’s collaboration.<\/p>\n

AVID Program Manager Traci Grove shared at the conclusion of the event, “Everyone is interested in what Valencia is doing because it is evident that your school has honed in on what it takes to prepare all students for college and career success.”<\/p>\n
