The District also set aside time to recognize three outstanding student groups &#8212; AVID 8th Grade Standouts, Kraemer Middle School&#8217;s Science Olympiad Team, and Chapman University Holocaust Art &amp; Writing Contest Finalists.<\/p>\n<p>Every year,\u00a0PYLUSD asks each of its school sites to identify a special individual or dynamic duo who has dedicated their time and energy to benefit\u00a0students while exemplifying the District&#8217;s core values\u00a0&#8212; Excellence, Integrity, Collaboration, and Innovation.<\/p>\n<p>That night, loved ones, coworkers, District employees, and fellow community members packed the Board Room in order to cheer on each\u00a0honoree as they received acknowledgement for their efforts by Trustees, District administrators, and principals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Board-Meeting-Community-Honorees-5-14-19-14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16252 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Board-Meeting-Community-Honorees-5-14-19-14-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Board-Meeting-Community-Honorees-5-14-19-14-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Board-Meeting-Community-Honorees-5-14-19-14-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Board-Meeting-Community-Honorees-5-14-19-14-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Board-Meeting-Community-Honorees-5-14-19-14.jpg 1250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Executive Director of Instructional Support, Richard McAlindin, and Executive Director of Special Education, Renee Gray, took a moment to speak about each honorees\u2019 contributions and presented them with a PYLUSD \u201cYou Are the Advantage\u201d certificate of achievement. This year marked the 20th year of the competition, in which the theme was \u201cPurposeful Telling Through Memory to Action,&#8221; Deputy Superintendent, Candy Plahy mentioned.<\/p>\n<div recognition.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Yasmine Cohen<\/strong>, an 8th grader at Travis Ranch School, and was selected as a finalist for her poem titled, \u201cJust Like You.\u201d <strong>Ethan Lee<\/strong>, a junior at El Dorado High School, was also selected as a finalist for his film titled, &#8220;Ism\u00e9tl\u00e9s,&#8221; which is Hungarian for \u201cRepetition.&#8221;\u00a0<strong>Gabriela Schrader<\/strong>, a senior at Esperanza High School, was distinguished for her original work of art titled, \u201cLove\u2019s Power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During this portion of the evening, community member <strong>Lenore Bruckner<\/strong> was also recognized for her efforts in encouraging the District&#8217;s consistent participation in this competition.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Superintendent, Candy Plahy, mentioned, &#8220;As a member of the Superintendent&#8217;s Community Advisory Council, Lenore has been a champion for ensuring PYLUSD students have the opportunity to hear the stories of Holocaust survivors and their families for the past 15 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all recognized that
