On Thursday, May 23, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District<\/a><\/span> (PYLUSD) hosted its annual Induction Colloquium at the Professional Development Academy in Yorba Linda.<\/p>\n

In California, new teachers are required to go through a two-tiered credentialing system which includes coursework and fieldwork, in addition to participating in a two-year induction program focused on extensive support and mentoring. School districts are responsible for providing induction programs to progress teachers towards a full understanding of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. At the end of this process, teachers earn a California Clear Credential.<\/p>\n

The day of the Colloquium, Board of Education members, administrators, and induction mentors gathered to help honor 69 first and second year teachers as they shared their portfolio of work and accomplishments from throughout the school year.<\/p>\n

Based on the event theme, \u201cIgnite: Inspire. Grow. Network. Innovate. Teach. Educate.,\u201d Superintendent, Dr. Greg Plutko, spoke to the crowd about the importance of mentors and the guidance that they so thoughtfully offer. He also connected the new teachers\u2019 work back to two themes that have been a yearlong focus for the District \u2013 \u201cresults versus impact\u201d and \u201cname, face, story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t thank you enough for the work. Even though I wasn\u2019t in your classrooms each and every day this school year, I know you all had a positive impact on your students. Without a doubt,\u201d he shared with the new teachers.<\/p>\n

To close the colloquium, Dr. Plutko Induction Coordinator Kelly Farrell presented each new teacher \u2013 first and second year completers \u2013 with a certificate of completion.<\/p>\n
