Yorba Linda Middle School (YLMS) kicked off the 2019-2020 school year by hosting their inaugural “Week of Welcome,” known as “WOW,” in an effort to\u00a0introduce\u00a0school-wide expectations, establish school culture, and create a positive learning environment for all students.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy setting our expectations and establishing our school culture early in the year, students take pride in their school and are excited about returning,\u201d shared Principal Greg Kemp.<\/p>\n

Time was set aside throughout the week for students to participate in multiple lessons focused\u00a0on\u00a0setting goals, creating a growth mindset, understanding the difference between bullying vs. mean vs. rude behavior, and\u00a0much more.<\/p>\n

Upon their arrival on the first day,\u00a0all Bobcats were\u00a0treated\u00a0to a pancake\u00a0breakfast prepared by teachers, administrators, and PTSA volunteers.<\/p>\n

On the second day of school, the entire student body participated in a peaceful yoga session before enjoying\u00a0an assembly with guest speaker, Tyler Durman. Durman is a well-known motivational speaker who encourages students to\u00a0care for each other, make good choices, and become positive leaders in their school and community.<\/p>\n

Students learned about the school’s\u00a0new Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) matrix, “Bobcats REPresent,” which stands for Resiliency, Empathy, and Potential. In addition, information about the school’s new electronic\u00a0reward system, 5-Star Students, was also shared. This system allows students to earn rewards by demonstrating positive behavior around campus\u00a0and participating in school activities.<\/p>\n
