AVID is collecting stories from current and former students and educators to better understand the impact the program is having<\/p>\n<p>In his book, &#8220;Question Everything,&#8221; education author Jay Mathews details his &#8220;Why AVID&#8221; story &#8212; one of a skeptic turned advocate. Working with Matthews, AVID is collecting stories from current and former students and educators to better understand the impact that AVID is having.\u00a0Mathews writes: &#8220;Lots of journalists write about education by asking questions about why schools are so bad. I thought it might be useful to find the best schools and the best teachers, particularly teachers and schools that were helping low-income kids and minority kids, and find out why they were doing so well &#8212; what they were doing to raise these kids up to a level that no one expected.
