The El Dorado High School (EDHS) Gold Mock Trial team defeated Pacific Coast High School in a doubleheader final round on Saturday, December 14 to be named the 2019-20 Orange County Champions. As a result, the team will advance to the California State Championships at the end of March.<\/p>\n
According to Mock Trial coach Sunshine Cavalluzzi, this is the seventh championship for EDHS, who is now tied with Woodbridge High School as the Orange County school with the most championships in the history of the program.<\/p>\n
Notably, four of the county’s top\u00a0sixteen teams, three of the top eight, and two of the top four were from\u00a0Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District high schools including El Dorado Gold, El Dorado Hawk, Valencia Gold, and\u00a0Yorba Linda High School.\u00a0PYLUSD was the only school district with\u00a0this same distinction.<\/p>\n
According to the Orange County Department of Education, Mock Trial is a civic education program that combines performance-based, law-related education with tournament-style, academic competition. High school students, working in teams under the guidance of volunteer attorney coaches and teachers, analyze the facts of a hypothetical criminal court case, prepare trial strategy and enact every role in the trial proceedings, as members of either the prosecution or defense.<\/p>\n
