On February 13, Valencia High School hosted the Orange County High School AVID Demonstration Collaborative. Valencia High School is proud to be one of only five AVID National Demonstration Schools in Orange County.\u00a0The Tigers were thrilled to showcase their school to over 50 participants, including teachers, administrators, and counselors from neighboring\u00a0high school\u00a0National Demonstration schools. The Demonstration Collaborative is a great event for national demonstration schools to learn best practices from each other and share their strong AVID systems and strengthen their AVID implementation.<\/p>\n

During their visit, the educators walked classrooms to see WICOR instructional strategies such as focused note-taking, collaborative structures, and student lead inquiry through Socratic Seminar. The day concluded with a job share collaborative where students, content teachers,\u00a0PYLUSD directors, and leadership teams shared with best practices with each other.<\/p>\n

“Valencia High School gives thanks to our wonderful teachers for embodying the mission and vision of our great school, by providing students opportunities to challenge themselves and providing them a supportive and nurturing learning experience,” Assistant Principal Paige Stills mentioned. “The AVID program has made a positive impact on all students on our campus and seeks to enrich and support all students in achieving their college and career goals.”<\/p>\n

The event was made possible in large part by AVID Coordinator, Corinna Harnett, and AVID Counselor Liz Nasouf, as well as\u00a0PYLUSD Directors Cary Johnson\u00a0and Keith Carmona, and AVID program specialist, Paul La Porte.<\/p>\n
