Yorba Linda Middle School\u00a0just finished a very busy February focused on celebrating prominent\u00a0individuals for Black History Month.<\/p>\n

The school’s ASB class orchestrated a month of heroes to spotlight with interactive activities for both remote and hybrid students to enjoy.\u00a0Bobcat TV\u00a0showcased\u00a0\u201cHero of the Day,\u201d which taught students all about each individual’s life. Throughout the month,\u00a05 different stars with a different person’s name\u00a0on them were placed in random\u00a0spots\u00a0around campus. When students found the stars with\u00a0a\u00a0hero\u2019s name, they brought them to Mrs. Jenkins\u2019s room for a prize. Keeping everyone focused on finding the stars meant the halls were abuzz with names such as Maya Angelou, Thurgood Marshall, and Wangari Maathai, to name a few.<\/p>\n

At the end of the month, ASB organized virtual activities, including an online field trip, a Spotify playlist, informational videos, and a virtual reading library that students were able to complete on their own time. To culminate the activity, the ASB students wrote questions connecting to the virtual activities and created a Google Form. Once posted on the school wide Google Classroom, all students could complete the form and earn 20 5-Star points for answering correctly. Over 350 students participated! Way to go, Bobcats!<\/p>\n

PYLUSD schools across the district planned various activities to help students, staff, and community members honor the importance of Black History Month.
