MATHCOUNTS, a\u00a0non-profit organization focused on providing extracurricular math activities to middle school students, and BAE Systems, Inc., an aerospace company, recently partnered to host a virtual activity during Engineers Week from February 22-26, 2021. Annually, Engineers Week celebrates talented engineers across the nation who support MATHCOUNTS programs as coordinators and volunteers, inspire future problem solvers, and make a difference in the world.<\/p>\n

During the virtual event, the organizations posted\u00a0five engineer-themed “Problems of the Day” online at www.mathcounts.org\/eweek<\/a>\u00a0for students to attempt. The problem sets centered on the following types of engineering: environmental, systems, software, aerospace, and chemical. A “future engineer” is a student who attempted the problems. A “future engineer with honors” is a student who answers all parts of a problem set correctly.<\/p>\n

Maiah Sharma, a 7th grade student at Yorba Linda Middle School, applied her knowledge and skills to attempt all\u00a0five problem sets. In the end, she wrote\u00a0three perfect problems sets (i.e. environment, systems, and aerospace engineering).\u00a0According to math teacher, William Lin, there\u00a0were less than 240 perfect problem sets that were written throughout the entire state of California!\u00a0Way to go, Bobcat!<\/p>\n
