Congratulations are in order for Valencia High School (VHS) counselor, Mark Stanley, for being named a School Counselor of the Year\u00a0by the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) on Friday, February 11, 2022.\u00a0According to OCDE, the\u00a0Counselor Recognition and Counselor Advocate Awards program\u00a0was established\u00a0in 2018 to spotlight\u00a0the County\u2019s top professional counselors and their contributions to positive school climates and student success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Stanley has served the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) as a counselor for over 25 years,\u00a0beginning at Valencia High School in 1997. He attended California State University, Long Beach, earning degrees in Social Science (B.S.), Secondary Education (Teaching Credential), and School Counseling (M.A.). He worked for Long Beach Unified School District for ten years prior to coming to PYLUSD.
Mr. Stanley has been involved with the Valencia Academy since its inception and currently has the International Baccalaureate and IB\/Val Tech Dual Diploma students as his counseling caseload. He also works with all Cambridge AICE Diploma students this year. Mr. Stanley was an adjunct admissions reader for the University of California, Los Angeles, for fifteen years and his specialties include preparing for the college application process and elite college admissions. Mr. Stanley enjoys helping Academy families and their students develop an academic four-year plan and set goals for college admissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
