Both teams recently participated in the state competition and earned top honors. The competition took place online on March 1, 5, and 12. Below is a summary of each school&#8217;s results.<br><br><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Esperanza High School<\/span><\/strong><br>Esperanza placed 5th overall in division 3 at state (division 3 had 20 schools). Three Esperanza students earned medals:<br>1) Mihir Bhanji: Bronze medal in science<br>2) Avinaash Sarma: Silver medal in interview<br>3) Megan Davis: 5 Bronze medals in art, economics, literature, essay &amp; overall individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The medals will be mailed to students later this month. The team&#8217;s advisor is Kressler Nguyen-Valdez.<br><br><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Valencia High School<\/span><\/strong><br>The Tigers placed 3rd in Division II, which puts them in the Top 20 schools in California! The following students earned individual medals.<br>1) Carrie Lin earned a Gold in Social Science<br>2) Kate Toller earned a Silver in Speech<br>3) Aaron Kim earned a Bronze in Music and Science, Silver in Essay and was 3rd overall in Scholastic.<br><br>Way to go, Decathletes! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to the members of Esperanza and Valencia high schools&#8217; Academic Decathlon teams.
