Along with the recognition, Tyler will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship for his project titled &#8220;Integrity of Fecal Microbiome Biospecimen Diversity and Composition Across Various Practical Conditions.&#8221; Yorba Linda High School will also receive a grant as a result of Tyler&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/pasted-image-0.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/pasted-image-0.png\" alt=\"Tyler from Yorba Linda High School.\" class=\"wp-image-23083\" width=\"197\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/pasted-image-0.png 784w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/pasted-image-0-293x300.png 293w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/pasted-image-0-768x786.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tyler Benjamin Yang<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Tyler and other finalists were chosen based on their outstanding research, leadership skills, community involvement, commitment to academics, creativity in asking scientific questions, and exceptional promise as STEM leaders demonstrated through the submission of their original, independent research projects, essays, and recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other students&#8217; research projects covered topics from analyzing the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, to developing eco-friendly biofuel, and improving methods used to detect diseases and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer\u2019s, bladder cancer, monkeypox, autism, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only two other seniors in Orange County received this same distinction including Thaddaeus Kiker from Sunny Hills High School in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District and Akshata Tiwari from Aliso Niguel High in the Capistrano Unified School District. Tyler was chosen from an applicant pool of 1,949 students from 627 high schools across 48 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and four other countries.
