El Dorado High School\u2019s ltalian Club met for a luncheon on January 20, dining on Italian food from Tony\u2019s Little Italy Restaurant, which is located in Placentia. Besides the ever-present camaraderie among this group, the students also learned about Italian culture by playing the board game called Tombola.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tombola originated in Naples, Italy around 1794 and is most popular in southern Italy.  The game is usually played around Advent and the weeks leading up to New Year\u2019s Eve. Tombola is somewhat similar to Bingo and prizes are won after the players match 2, 3, 4, and 5 numbers on the play board.  In this game, Italian candy was distributed as the prizes.  The grand prize is won after a contestant acquires all 15 numbers on the play board, in which the winner then shouts out \u201cTombola.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, it was a fantastic lunch and the students had another outstanding time while simultaneously learning about Italian culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
