On Tuesday, May 16, the\u00a0Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District\u00a0hosted its annual Induction Showcase at Lakeview Elementary School in Yorba Linda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In California, new teachers are required to go through a two-tiered credentialing system which includes coursework and fieldwork, in addition to participating in a two-year induction program focused on extensive support and mentoring. School districts are responsible for providing induction programs to progress teachers toward a full understanding of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. At the end of this process, teachers earn a California Clear Credential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day of the Showcase, Board Members, district and school administrators, and induction mentors gathered to help honor 38 first-year and 43 second-year teachers as they demonstrated competency in the California Standards and highlighted accomplishments from throughout the school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Dr. Linda Adamson were among the speakers who addressed the room full of mentors and mentees that afternoon. They both shared words of wisdom and praise with the new teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event featured music from El Dorado\u2019s Hawktet under the direction of Taylor Smith, a presentation of the colors from Esperanza High School\u2019s AFJROTC under the direction of Chief Master Sergeant Vincent Juarez, and a performance from Esperanza\u2019s Showcase Choir under the direction of Mark Myers. Retired teacher and current Induction mentor, Suzanne Borgese, was recognized with the Mentor Service Award for her excellence and longstanding commitment to the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To close the colloquium, Dr. Adamson and Induction Coordinator Cam Castaneda presented each new teacher, both first and second-year completers, with a certificate of completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
