On Wednesday, September 27, members of the Los Angeles Rams organization visited Valencia High School in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) to receive wooden ribbons crafted by students to help honor local cancer survivors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the 11th consecutive season that the Rams, alongside the National Football League (NFL), have partnered with the American Cancer Society (ACS) in their fight against cancer. Their joint initiative, \u201cCrucial Catch \u2013 Intercept Cancer,\u201d is meant to raise awareness about early detection and risk reduction efforts for various types of cancers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valencia students in ASB, football, and the Building Industry Technology Academy (BITA) helped create and paint 25 wooden cancer ribbons in preparation for the visit. Members of Valencia\u2019s football teams and cheerleaders then gifted the ribbons to the Rams representatives. These ribbons will be presented by the Rams to cancer survivors throughout the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valencia\u2019s very own Danielle Connor, who teaches history, was selected to be honored by the Rams as a cancer survivor this year. She will be recognized as an honorary captain at the upcoming Rams game on October 8, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valencia alumnus Chris Draft, who played for the Rams and now works with the organization, was fundamental in linking this effort back to his alma mater. Chris\u2019 twin nephews Ethan and Dylan Draft are current seniors on the football team at VHS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very proud of our students for stepping in to help with the ‘Crucial Catch’ initiative, and are grateful for Chris and the Draft family for bringing this opportunity to our students and for recognizing Mrs. Connor,\u201d shared Valencia Principal Chris Herzfeld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
