The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Middle School Athletics program is off to a successful start! On Friday, October 13, the district hosted its Middle School Volleyball Tournament at Esperanza High School in Anaheim. All six comprehensive schools participated in the fun, including Bernardo Yorba, Kraemer, Travis Ranch, Tuffree, Valadez, and Yorba Linda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading up to the tournament, hundreds of students had the opportunity to participate in after-school volleyball to learn basic skills, practice, and form teams with the help of PYLUSD teachers and coaches. Scrimmages were held to help student-athletes hone their skills leading up to the final tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament then featured a round-robin style format with matches happening throughout the course of the afternoon in both gyms at Esperanza. The final matches were played in front of a large crowd of supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, Yorba Linda and Tuffree middle schools competed in the boys\u2019 finals, with the Yorba Linda Bobcats prevailing as champions. Bernardo Yorba and Tuffree middle schools took the court for the girls\u2019 championship match, with the BYMS Matadors emerging as victorious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuffree Middle School Assistant Principal, Sarah Barton, was instrumental in organizing this effort. “It was a fantastic display of spirit and sportsmanship across all six schools,” she noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esperanza\u2019s administration and girls volleyball teams also played a huge role in making the event a great success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The district\u2019s next middle school sports event will be a cross-country meet hosted by Valencia High School at Veteran\u2019s Park in Yorba Linda on Friday, December 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
