On May 15, the prestigious Black and Gold Banquet took place at Alta Vista Country Club, celebrating the finest athletes and their remarkable contributions to El Dorado High School (EDHS) sports. This cherished annual event combines two significant traditions: the Athlete of Character awards for each sport and the induction into the EDHS Athletics Wall of Fame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Athlete of Character Award, named in honor of the late Terry Conley, a beloved coach who dedicated 35 years to EDHS athletics, recognizes athletes who exemplify exceptional character both on and off the field. This award is a testament to Coach Conley’s enduring legacy and his profound impact on the student-athletes he mentored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Wall of Fame inductees were celebrated for their outstanding achievements and lasting influence on their respective sports and the community. Kendall Benson, from the Class of 1997, was honored for her excellence in water polo and swimming. Todd Rogers, a 1982 graduate, was recognized not only for his prowess in baseball but also for his significant contributions to the community. Kristi Durant Solarzano, a standout softball player from the Class of 2002, was also inducted, though she was unable to attend the ceremony in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the efforts of Athletic Director Mr. Ray Elliott and the dedicated committee responsible for organizing this wonderful event. Their hard work ensured a memorable night celebrating the legacy and future of EDHS athletics. Way to go Hawks! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
