\nThe school held a Patriot Day observance and spirit assembly. First graders participated in a National Day of Service by hosting sheriff’s deputies from Yorba Linda, as well as local firefighters. Students shared class books, cookies and a chorus of “thank yous” with the first responders to show them appreciation for what they do in our community. The students were then treated to a look at a fire engine, as well as a visit from Bolt, Deputy Rich Franco’s K9 partner. \nStudents, staff and families gathered around the flag to recognize the sacrifice made by so many patriots on this day 14 years ago. Even though students at Golden had not yet been born when 9\/11 happened, the events of that day have impacted their lives. Mrs. Turk read remarks prepared by Superintendent Dr. Doug Domene, then everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance together, words that remind us of our bond as Americans.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
\nMrs. Kilbarger\/Olson’s fourth grade class wore red, white and blue to honor this special day. Way to R.O.A.R. Lakeview Lions!<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
\nStudents showed their patriotism by wearing red, white and blue at an assembly to honor the heroes of 9\/11. Sixth graders then led students and staff in a rendition of “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” while students proudly waved their classroom flags.<\/p>\n<\/a> <\/a> <\/a><\/p>\n
\nThe school gathered to honor heroes, both present and past, with poetry readings, letters of thanks and a flag salute. Two fifth graders, Brynn Gamble and Grant Archuletta, presented a powerful reading of the poem, “One,” by Cheryl Sawyer, effectively depicting the conflicting thoughts and emotions felt by so many on that day 14 years ago. Five students, Marely Quirk, Brian Morales, Dyllin Schroeder, Guan Chang and Courtney Vu, were selected to read their original poems and letters that captured their heartfelt thanks to the men and women in uniform, several of whom attended the ceremony. The event concluded appropriately with a flag salute led by Rose Drive’s local Boy Scout troop.<\/p>\n<\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a><\/p>\n
\nPrimary students (K-2) participated by singing a patriotic song, and third grade students read the preamble of the U.S. Constitution. All of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Daisies were invited to wear their uniforms that day.
