At Bryant Ranch School, fourth-grade students recently showcased their ingenuity and teamwork by designing and constructing solar ovens as part of a dynamic hands-on science project. The activity aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), focusing on energy transfer and engineering design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students collaborated to explore how the sun’s energy can be captured, reflected, and retained using everyday materials such as cardboard, aluminum foil, black paper, and clear plastic wrap. Through research and experimentation, they identified the most effective oven designs to melt marshmallows and chocolate for making s’mores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After constructing their ovens, students eagerly tested their creations by cooking the treats under the sun\u2019s rays. The successful results not only demonstrated the power of solar energy but also highlighted the students’ understanding of essential scientific principles. This engaging project fostered creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills as students navigated the engineering process and celebrated their accomplishments in renewable energy exploration.
