This prestigious award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to gifted education and advocated for students within California\u2019s educational system. Dr. Leon was recognized at the CAG Conference, held March 1-2, 2025, in Orange County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s awardees represent a range of educational roles, including classroom teachers, site administrators, district coordinators, district administrators, and higher education representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Leon received the recognition for her leadership in improving access to Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) services. After reviewing GATE qualification data, she identified areas where student representation could be improved. This led to a review of district qualification practices to ensure that all students had fair opportunities to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with GATE Coordinator Krisa Muller and researcher Dr. Scott Peters, Dr. Leon directed an evaluation that led to the implementation of new identification practices, including school-based norms. Her leadership encouraged collaboration among teachers to improve GATE participation and identify ways to strengthen the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Leon\u2019s nominator praised her as a dedicated leader, noting her commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for all students in the district.
