On Sunday, March 16, the El Dorado High School Mock Trial team earned an impressive fourth-place finish at the California State Finals. Competing in four rigorous rounds over a span of 26 hours, the team competed against 600 students representing 36 counties. This achievement followed their success in county competitions, where approximately 4,500 students from 400 teams vied for a place at the state level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s case, People v. Gold, focused on the trial of Logan Gold, the assistant campaign manager for their spouse, Harper Dorais, a candidate for city council in the rural mountain town of Emerald Bend, California. Gold was charged with the kidnapping of Taylor Alexander, a rival candidate in the election. A key pretrial issue in the case involved a defense motion to exclude a potentially incriminating statement made by Gold while in police custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The El Dorado High School team demonstrated outstanding legal expertise, advocacy skills, and collaboration throughout the competition, earning recognition for their dedication and performance at the state level. Way to go Hawks! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
