In order to deepen their understanding that geometry is all around us, Mrs. Riggio led a discussion about geometric shapes seen in architecture; specifically looking at geodesic domes. Students observed a flip chart that illustrated various geodesic domes and their different functions. Then, students participated in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activity that called for them to create their own geodesic dome using jelly beans and toothpicks. The students had a great time, and were able to recognize the equilateral triangles that helped to form the dome and give it strength.<\/p>\n<p><a
