Fifth and sixth grade students at Woodsboro Elementary School recently participated in an engaging and educational Ellis Island Immigration Simulation. As part of this interactive learning experience, students in Mrs. Livergood\u2019s fifth grade class assumed the roles of early 20th-century immigrants seeking entry into the United States. Meanwhile, sixth graders from Mrs. Friedrich\u2019s class acted as immigration officials, tasked with evaluating and processing the incoming individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the simulation, students encountered various challenges that mirrored those faced by immigrants during the historical Ellis Island process. A select number of participants were denied entry due to simulated illnesses or criminal records, while the majority successfully completed the process, took the Oath of Allegiance, and were granted U.S. citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This immersive activity provided students with a meaningful understanding of the complexities and emotional experiences associated with immigration in the early 1900s, enriching their study of American history through active participation and role play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
