On Thursday, October 2, Glenview Elementary School proudly hosted its inaugural Dual Language Academy (DLA) Bicultural Literacy Night\u2014an evening dedicated to celebrating literacy, culture, and community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dual language teachers Mrs. Tabata and Mrs. Vega led the event with an engaging demonstration of an interactive read-aloud featuring the beloved children\u2019s book Too Many Tamales. Families observed how classrooms incorporate Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) strategies to enhance reading instruction through collaboration and language-rich learning experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebration continued with a hands-on tamale-making demonstration led by Jennifer Callahan, the school\u2019s Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Culinary Arts instructor, alongside her talented students. Together, they guided families through the traditional process of preparing tamales, creating a meaningful cultural connection to the story shared earlier in the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special appreciation was extended to Librarian Mrs. Canfield for ensuring each family received a copy of Too Many Tamales, and to Ms. Lozoya for her instrumental support in preparing materials and logistics that contributed to the event\u2019s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glenview Elementary expressed sincere gratitude to all families and staff members who participated in this memorable evening. The event served as a powerful reminder of the ways in which literature and cultural traditions can unite a school community through shared learning and appreciation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
