On Thursday, October 30, students at Valadez Middle School Academy hosted the 16th annual \u201cRead for the Record\u201d event, welcoming first graders from Melrose and Rio Vista elementary schools to celebrate this worldwide initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jumpstart\u2019s Read for the Record unites millions of young children and caring adults to read the same book on the same day in communities around the world. The campaign emphasizes the importance of building early literacy and language skills to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this cherished tradition, Valadez Eagles collaborated with their first-grade buddies from feeder elementary schools to share the joy of reading. This year, eighth-grade students eagerly paired up with their younger counterparts to read See Marcus Grow by author Marcus Bridgewater, illustrated by Reggie Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Principal Will Truong extended a warm welcome, underscoring the event\u2019s significance: \u201cRead books you love, and share them with a friend, a teacher, or someone in your family. Reading opens up your imagination, sparks creativity, and helps you reach for your dreams,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the principal\u2019s address, middle and elementary students settled side by side in the quad to read together. Throughout the morning, buddies enjoyed a variety of rotating activities, including art projects and games. The event also featured fundraising efforts for the local non-profit Miraloma Park and Family Resource Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before departing, each first grader from Melrose and Rio Vista received a personal copy of See Marcus Grow to take home\u2014further inspiring a lifelong love of reading to share with family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
