On Thursday, November 6, Yorba Linda High Shoool students enrolled in Mr. Nick Gerasimou\u2019s Health Education course concluded their unit on nutrition, which included instruction on exercise, healthy eating, cholesterol management, and the distinction between beneficial and harmful fats. Following the completion of this unit, students transitioned to a new instructional focus covering tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and medicine. As part of this comprehensive curriculum, students also participated in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support this learning, the district provided access to Rescue Mini-Ann CPR manikins, which enabled students to engage in hands-on skill development. The CPR unit featured two days of direct instruction and guided activities emphasizing the science, purpose, and foundational methods of CPR. On the third day, students participated in a practical skills assessment in which they demonstrated mastery by responding to a simulated emergency scenario. During this practicum, each student was required to assess a mock victim, notify emergency services by contacting 911, and perform chest compressions for 30 seconds using proper technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mr. Gerasimou, this unit remains a highlight of the course each year and is consistently well-received by students. The instructional experience underscores the value and relevance of health education within the district, as it equips students with essential knowledge and life-saving skills that extend beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
