Linda Cohn, a sportscaster and anchor of ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” made a special appearance at Valadez Middle School Academy on Monday, March 14. She was invited by the school’s GOALS program, and gave a motivational talk to students. Following that, she played hockey with the kids at The Rinks – Anaheim ICE.<\/p>\n
GOALS, which stands for Growth Opportunities through Athletics, Learning and Service, is an Anaheim-based afterschool program. Operating at Valadez from 3:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on all school days, it features daily sports and fitness activities, homework help, nutritional snack time and a weekly film screening typically oriented around inspirational or legendary sports or social figures. GOALS equipment, uniforms, bus transportation, coaching and educational support is provided at no charge to the district.<\/p>\n
Cohn has long been considered a pioneer for women sportscasters. She has appeared on TV for over 23 years as one of the first fulltime female sports anchors. In fact, nobody has hosted more episodes of “SportsCenter” than Cohn. In 2008, she authored a memoir titled, “Cohn-Head: A No-Holds-Barred Account of Breaking Into the Boys’ Club.”<\/p>\n
