The Sports and Event Broadcasting class at Valencia High School was honored to be selected by the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) to produce the live-stream broadcasts for both the Girls and Boys Open Division Soccer Championships. The championship matches featured Mater Dei vs. Santa Margarita in the girls final and Mater Dei vs. Orange Lutheran in the boys final. Both games were held at Fred Kelly Stadium on the campus of El Modena High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many professional production companies compete for opportunities of this caliber, the Tigers Sports & Event Network (TSEN) set a new benchmark as one of the first high school broadcasting teams to produce a major CIF-SS Open Division championship event with a full-scale professional broadcast. The production included five cameras, instant replay capabilities, on-screen graphics, professional commercial breaks, live audio commentary, audio mixing, sideline reporting, and post-game interviews. The broadcast aired exclusively on the NFHS Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instructor Rod Boaz noted that the opportunity reflected the students\u2019 exceptional dedication and technical expertise. \u201cFor these students to earn such a high-profile set of games is a tribute to their talent, technical skill, and impressive work ethic,\u201d Boaz shared. Reflecting on the evening, he added humorously, \u201cThis is real work. We are all exhausted and probably need three showers, but we did it,\u201d as he continued to commend each member of the production team during a post-event reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boaz also recognized the contributions of former broadcasting student and current district technician Brandon Gooch, noting that the broadcast would not have been possible without his support as a broadcast coach and lead engineer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student producer Allyna Hsu also reflected on the team\u2019s accomplishment, sharing her appreciation for the crew\u2019s dedication. \u201cFor everyone on the crew tonight, I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of everyone who showed up today,\u201d Hsu said. \u201cIt is an amazing honor to produce this broadcast, and everyone on the crew should be proud of themselves. You are the reason the broadcast was such a success, and I am very grateful for each of you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening concluded with live halftime and post-game interviews, including remarks from Mater Dei\u2019s championship-winning head coach, Sean Ganey. During the broadcast, Ganey expressed appreciation for the students\u2019 work, stating, \u201cCredit to Valencia High School and to the students for producing this broadcast. This is professional work. More students should have opportunities like this. Great job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
