Lakeview Elementary School fourth-grade students recently brought history to life through an interactive culminating activity for their Westward Expansion unit. Students participated in hands-on experiences that reflected life during the California Gold Rush and the era of westward movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students tried their hand at panning for gold, sewed pouches to store their discoveries, played harmonicas, and churned butter, activities that highlighted the daily experiences of early settlers and miners. They also reenacted the historic Pony Express, racing messages across the school grounds, while a pair of playful \u201croad agents\u201d added excitement by \u201cstealing\u201d gold from a few unsuspecting miners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to teachers Mrs. Lester and Mrs. Sabio, the experience helped deepen students\u2019 understanding of history while promoting teamwork, problem-solving, and an appreciation for the perseverance and innovation of early pioneers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
