On Wednesday, April 15, Valencia High School senior Irene Pan was announced as a 2026 recipient of the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) Scholarship. This prestigious award provides up to $40,000 in financial support, distributed as $10,000 annually over four years, to assist students from historically underserved backgrounds in pursuing degrees in computer science and other STEM-related fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AFE Scholarship recognizes high school seniors in the United States who have demonstrated a strong commitment to computer science, either through completion of a high school or dual-enrollment course in the subject or by successfully completing a qualifying assessment administered by the program. Beyond financial support, the scholarship emphasizes community and mentorship. As part of the program\u2019s longstanding tradition, recipients are welcomed into the AFE network through a visit from a current Scholar Ambassador\u2014a college student and former scholarship recipient, who provides encouragement and insight as students begin their academic journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to scholarship funding, recipients are offered the opportunity to participate in a paid industry internship with Amazon. During this experience, students are embedded within software engineering teams, where they collaborate with managers, technical mentors, and peers to develop projects with real-world applications. Interns contribute to innovative platforms such as Amazon Web Services, seller logistics systems, and the Amazon retail platform, often culminating in the deployment of production-level code by the end of the internship.
