On May 1, Esperanza High School\u2019s Jazz Ensemble I achieved national recognition by being selected as one of only 20 finalist ensembles in the United States to perform at the 31st Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program & Festival. Hosted by the Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, the festival is widely regarded as one of North America\u2019s premier educational jazz events, bringing together the nation\u2019s most accomplished high school jazz ensembles for intensive workshops, masterclasses, and adjudicated performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the direction of Brad Davis, the ensemble earned its invitation through a highly competitive blind audition process evaluated by leading jazz educators and musicians. From April 30 through May 2, 2026, students participated in a rigorous program of professional learning experiences, collaborating with renowned artists and performing before an esteemed panel of adjudicators that included Wynton Marsalis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esperanza High School\u2019s selection marks the program\u2019s first appearance at the festival in 14 years and serves as a testament to the sustained excellence, dedication, and musicianship demonstrated by its students and instructional staff. The achievement reflects the strength of the school\u2019s performing arts program and its ongoing commitment to artistic excellence and student achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
