{"id":4057,"date":"2016-04-12T10:00:54","date_gmt":"2016-04-12T17:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=4057"},"modified":"2016-04-12T10:35:20","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T17:35:20","slug":"valencia-student-ellie-bui-places-at-medical-competition-invited-to-international-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=4057","title":{"rendered":"PYLUSD well represented at medical competition, 11 students advance to international conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dozens of students from the district \u2013 including 58 from Esperanza High School&#8217;s Medical Sciences Academy and a team from Valencia High School \u2013 competed in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference from April 7 through April 10 at the Anaheim Marriott. The conference offers a chance for future healthcare professionals to network with peers and industry professionals, as well as show off their knowledge and skills in a series of competitive events.<\/p>\n<p>The students choose which events they&#8217;d like to participate in at the beginning of the school year, and spend their own time \u2013 outside of school and class \u2013 preparing for them. While all events have a healthcare focus, they also encompass many skills required of any profession, including public speaking, leadership, adaptability, communication and responsibility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Esperanza High School<\/strong><br \/>\nTwenty-four Esperanza students who\u00a0competed qualified in the Top 10 within their event category, while 10 of them received
