{"id":5072,"date":"2016-05-26T12:00:05","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T19:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=5072"},"modified":"2016-06-08T11:44:27","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T18:44:27","slug":"travis-ranch-students-design-and-build-prototype-of-a-prosthetic-lower-leg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=5072","title":{"rendered":"Travis Ranch students design and build prototype of a prosthetic lower leg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students in Mrs. Paola Dell&#8217;Olio Hellwig&#8217;s class at Travis Ranch School designed and built a prototype of a prosthetic lower leg as a culminating group project to the joints and levers in the human body course of study.<\/p>\n<p>This was another example of integrating engineering into the seventh grade science curriculum in an attempt to gradually roll-out Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) into current standards.<\/p>\n<p>A few different groups actually created functional prototypes. A parent of one of the students graciously loaned a real prosthetic leg to observe and study as part of this project.
