On Tuesday, Feb. 14, George Key School unveiled a brand new wheelchair swing in its playground area. This swing was dedicated to the memory of a dear student and friend, Dylan Ciocan, who recently passed away. Dylan was a preschool and kindergarten student at George Key. He loved coming to school, and enjoyed Dr. Seuss books, which is why the school chose a Dr. Seuss quote for the dedication plaque. The plaque itself was printed and donated by Brea Trophy.<\/p>\n
Over 50 percent of the students at George Key are in wheelchairs. The new swing allows these students to experience the sensory experience of swinging like a typical ambulatory child.<\/p>\n
Three years ago, members of the George Key Parent Student Staff Organization (PSSO) agreed to purchase a wheelchair swing through donations and fundraising. A large portion of the PSSO funds were from a contribution by the Ciocan family in Dylan’s honor.<\/p>\n
Over the past three years, the district has worked to create a safe, secure location for the swing. The district also agreed to fund the installation and safety foam flooring, for which the George Key community is incredibly grateful.<\/p>\n
The Ciocan family was in attendance to celebrate the memory of their son, as well as the beginning of new swinging adventures at George Key.<\/p>\n
