{"id":8356,"date":"2017-03-02T08:00:28","date_gmt":"2017-03-02T16:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=8356"},"modified":"2017-03-02T08:42:48","modified_gmt":"2017-03-02T16:42:48","slug":"pylusd-students-honored-for-character-by-orange-county-athletic-directors-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=8356","title":{"rendered":"PYLUSD students honored for character by Orange County Athletic Directors Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, Feb. 27, several outstanding high school athletes from PYLUSD were recognized at the Orange County Athletic Directors Association (OCADA) &#8220;Athletes of Character&#8221; awards ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Guests of honor included CIF State Executive Director Roger Blake and CIF Southern Section Commissioner Rob Wigod. There were 50 schools and nearly 500 attendees celebrating 97 student honorees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>El Dorado High School<\/strong><br \/>\nSenior Alexandria Han is a four-year tennis player and captain. She is also president of the Make-A-Wish club at El Dorado, and has volunteered with the Placentia Recycle Teen Team while being a scholar-athlete all four years.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Garrett Gonzales is also a four-year tennis player, and has acquired his Eagle Scout rank. He also works at Yorba Linda Friends Church as part of the &#8220;men in black&#8221; who help set up special events and weekend services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Esperanza High School<\/strong><br \/>\nSenior Kara Fortier is a lacrosse athlete who is described by Coach Brian Eisenberg as, &#8220;True to herself, self-empowered and extremely intelligent in a real-world way. She cares for others, and is resilient and hardworking especially through challenges.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Senior Luke Rhone is a dual sport athlete in water polo and swimming. Coach Galen Diaz explains, &#8220;Luke is committed to his teammates and a mature leader with an outstanding work ethic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/esperanza-ocada-awards.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8358\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/esperanza-ocada-awards-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/esperanza-ocada-awards-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/esperanza-ocada-awards.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Valencia High School<\/strong><br \/>\nJunior Chase Chocek is a two-year varsity football athlete, playing both linebacker and tight end. He was an All-League football selection this past season. Academically, Chase has a 4.16 GPA, and is taking International Baccalaureate (IB) classes.<\/p>\n<p>Junior Kelli Van Dam is also a two-year varsity water polo athlete, and a two-year lacrosse player. Kelli has made All-League the last two years in lacrosse.
