On May 10, eighth-grade AVID ‘Standout Students’ from all six Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) middle schools were recognized by the Orange County Department of Education at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Tuffree Middle School student, Kayla Moran, was one of just eight\u00a0students selected as an ‘Angels Scholar’ which includes a $10,000 college scholarship to be held in trust until she enrolls.<\/p>\n

The evening included representatives from 71 AVID middle schools around Orange County. Each Standout Student was awarded a new laptop for their hard work throughout the school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

AVID, short for ‘Advancement Via Individual Determination, supports students with post-secondary potential to successfully matriculate to college, persevere and earn a degree.<\/p>\n

The following AVID Standout Students were nominated by their AVID elective teachers:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bailey Maxwell (Bernardo Yorba) nominated by Leigh Ann Swarm
\nLiliana Jaimes (Kraemer) nominated by Deniz Fierro
\nZander Grass (Travis Ranch) nominated by Rebekah Smith
\nKayla Moran (Tuffree) nominated by Kim Schultz
\nJoanna Garcia (Valadez) nominated by Santiago Villafana
\nTobias Teng (Yorba Linda) nominated by Dion Taylor<\/p>\n
