On Wednesday, June 14, Esperanza High School (EHS) held its 2017 commencement ceremony where 377 seniors were presented their high school diploma in Nathan Shapell Memorial Stadium.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Of those seniors, five were named National Merit Commended Scholars, three were selected as National Merit Hispanic Recognition Program Honorees, five received athletic scholarships, two earned the distinction of Presidential Scholars, and overall received $2.2 million in scholarship money. \u00a0Additionally, 91% of the EHS Class of 2017 has enrolled to further their educational pursuit at a two or four-year college or university. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The ceremony included honored guests such as Board of Education President, Karin Freeman, Vice President, Carol Downey, Trustee, Eric Padget, as well as the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Greg Plutko, Deputy Superintendent, Candy Plahy, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, David Giordano, and retiring Principal, Dr. Ken Fox. <\/span><\/p>\n

Students speakers Gelila Tewodrose and Magan Tran both reflected on their time at Esperanza High School and the many opportunities the school had offered.<\/p>\n

After the new graduates turned their tassels from right to left, streamer cannons blasted off over the graduates to conclude the ceremony.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
