On the 16th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the\u00a0Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District\u00a0(PYLUSD) remembered the thousands of Americans who lost their lives, as well as the selfless bravery of first responders. \u00a0On Monday, September 11, PYLUSD facilities flew flags at half-staff, and many schools held special ceremonies or moments of silence in remembrance. \u00a0To see more pictures, visit the district’s facebook page at www.facebook.com\/pylusd<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fairmont Elementary School<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Fairmont Falcons held a morning Patriot Day assembly in remembrance of the anniversary of 9\/11. \u00a0Principal Cindy Rex began the\u00a0ceremony by reflecting on the tragic events that happened that day 16 years ago. \u00a0Girl Scout Troop 3286 then presented the colors by displaying the American and California state flag for the crowd to see. The\u00a0morning also consisted of patriotic music courtesy of Fairmont and Bernardo Yorba Middle School, a poem of “remembers” by students, and a speech by assistant principal, Teresa Mulcayh. \u00a0The assembly ended with an opportunity to honor local first responders and military families in attendance.<\/p>\n

George Key School\/Venture Academy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

George Key and Venture Academy students and staff also participated in a special Patriot’s Day ceremony. \u00a0During the service, students helped lower the school’s American flag to half-staff, lead participants in the pledge of allegiance, and recited the history of Patriot Day. The students also made thank you cards and presented them to honored guests, Officers Rodriguez and Martinez of the Placentia Police Department.<\/p>\n

\nGlenknoll Elementary School<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Glenknoll also held a special assembly in honor of Patriot Day. Boy Scout Troop 851, joined by Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, and Daisies, began the\u00a0assembly by presenting the flag and leading the school\u00a0in the Pledge of Allegiance. Local deputy sheriffs attended\u00a0and a few first graders shared why they are thankful for them. \u00a0Everyone took advantage of the\u00a0opportunity to thank everyday heroes while, at the same time, remembering the heroes and events of September 11, 2001 through a moment of silence.<\/p>\n

\nGlenview Elementary School
\n<\/strong><\/span>Glenview Elementary scholars recognized Patriot Day with a school-wide flag salute and a patriotic song tribute in honor of September 11. Boy and Girl Scouts were also invited to wear their scout uniforms to school in honor of the special day.<\/p>\n

Woodsboro Elementary School<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Woodsboro Elementary School students, staff, parents, and community members gathered on Monday morning\u00a0to pay tribute to all who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. On this Patriot’s Day, the school also honored all who serve\u00a0to protect our country.<\/p>\n
