{"id":9709,"date":"2017-10-12T08:03:22","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T15:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=9709"},"modified":"2017-10-13T12:14:53","modified_gmt":"2017-10-13T19:14:53","slug":"morse-elementary-hosts-first-ever-avid-family-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodnews.pylusd.org\/?p=9709","title":{"rendered":"Morse Elementary holds successful first AVID family night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Morse Elementary School recently had its first AVID family night.\u00a0 Over 90 Wildcat families attended this evening to collaborate and learn more about the Growth Mindset and STEM.\u00a0 The evening began with families greeted by sixth grade students at the gate welcoming them to our school.<\/p>\n<p>To kick-off the event, students entered the MPR doing the AVID binder chant.\u00a0 Students marked into the MPR, holding their binders, repeating the chant in cadence.\u00a0 Next, using the book, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rosie Revere, Engineer<\/span>, by Andrea Beaty, students from PK to sixth grade acted out the story of a little girl that learns to never give up on her dreams as she creates gizmo and gadgets.\u00a0 The theme of the story is that through failures, we can achieve success.\u00a0 \u00a0Throughout the skit, students lead the audience in AVID cheers.<\/p>\n<p>After learning more about the\u00a0Growth Mindset, families were given the challenge to create a paper airplane to use in Morse Family Paper Airplane Challenge for prizes. Together, families planned, created, tested, and altered paper airplanes. Students used the testing strip to measure the distance during trial runs, made changes to their designs before finally competing in the family challenge. Throughout this process, families used the \u201cI can\u2026\u201d attitude as they adjusted their designs.
