PYLUSD Middle and High Schools Celebrate Unity and Inclusion at Yorba Linda Middle School’s 5th Annual Unified Dance

On Tuesday, March 25, Yorba Linda Middle School welcomed Valadez Middle School, Travis Ranch School, Valencia High School, El Dorado High School, Esperanza High School, and Yorba Linda High School to its 5th Annual Unified Dance. The event brought together special education students and general education partners from across the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District for a morning of dancing, activities, and camaraderie. Over the years, this highly anticipated event has become a favorite gathering for students, teachers, and support staff, fostering a strong sense of community and inclusion.

The 80s-themed event was held at the Thomas Lasorda Jr. Field House, where students danced to lively music provided by DJ Diamond, also known as Teresa Burnett, a talented adult with Down syndrome. Peer leaders from ASB, WEB, Yearbook, Unified and Advanced Art, and GEAR UP facilitated a variety of engaging activities, including face painting, balloon artistry, carnival-style games, and more. The gymnasium buzzed with excitement as students enthusiastically participated, embodying the spirit of unity and inclusivity.

The Unified Dance exemplifies the district’s commitment to creating an environment where all students feel valued, accepted, and empowered. The event continues to strengthen bonds, celebrate diversity, and promote a culture of belonging. Well done, Yorba Linda Middle School Bobcats!
