On Friday, March 21, El Dorado and Esperanza High Schools participated in a Unified Sports Track Meet, where special education students competed in events such as the softball toss, frisbee toss, 50-yard race, 100-yard race, and relay race.
Unified Sports originated at Esperanza High School in PYLUSD as a student-led club focused on fostering inclusion and friendships through sports. This initiative has since expanded, with each high school now offering Unified Physical Education courses that create a fully inclusive environment where students of all abilities engage in non-competitive learning experiences.
Unified PE enables PYLUSD students to participate in activities promoting lifelong fitness, physical skills, and teamwork. The course also provides leadership opportunities that empower students to advocate for inclusivity, contributing to a school culture that values diversity.
Congratulations to all athletes for their outstanding performance at the Unified Sports Track Meet.
