Lakeview Elementary Celebrates Literacy with a Night of Reading, Authors, and Fun

On March 19, Lakeview Elementary School hosted their families and community members for a memorable Family Literacy Night. The event brought together students and their loved ones for a vibrant evening centered on the joy of reading. Families rotated through a series of engaging literacy stations, explored book-inspired crafts, and took part in games designed to make learning feel like play. The highlight of the evening was the opportunity to meet six local authors, giving students a rare and inspiring chance to connect with real writers from their own community. The night was thoughtfully designed to ignite a love of reading while creating lasting memories built on shared learning and laughter.

The fun did not stop there. On March 20, upper-grade students had the exciting opportunity to dive even deeper into the world of storytelling when one of the featured authors returned to lead a special workshop on writing mystery stories. Students discovered how authors find inspiration for their plots and learned the craft behind building suspense and keeping readers hooked. The collaborative nature of the session encouraged students to work together, brainstorming and constructing their own engaging mystery narratives alongside their classmates.

Together, these two days reflected Lakeview Elementary’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a lifelong love of literacy in every student. By bringing authors into the school and inviting families to be active participants in the learning experience, the school created something truly special: a reminder that reading is not just a skill, but a shared adventure. Events like these strengthen the bond between school, family, and community, and inspire students to see themselves as readers, thinkers, and storytellers. Go Lions!
