Lakeview Elementary School’s annual Family Science Night and Fair was held on Thursday, Dec. 1. This year’s theme was “Science … It’s Out of This World.” Seventy-six student-scientists participated in the Fair portion, which included conducting a science experiment, creating a board that displayed findings and an interview. Judges for the night included Cary Johnson (district), Jenner Rasic (district), Hillary Sippell (Tynes Elementary School), Carol Heath (Tynes), Tiffany Eliot (Lakeview Elementary School), Janet Torres (Lakeview), Shannon Vlastnik (Lakeview), Ashley Goyette (Lakeview), Kristin Turnquist (California State University, Fullerton, student teacher) and Katilin Borden (CSUF student teacher). Additionally, Hope Conant (Valencia High School) and her robotics club students – the TiGears – provided a robot demonstration, while Brady Bilhartz (Valencia) had even more students volunteering at the hands-on exploration stations. Lakeview’s Lion Pride gifted and talented education (GATE) students also displayed their leadership skills as they ran exploration stations. Pitsco representatives also hosted an open house in the new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) lab, allowing families to take a peek at the exciting learning space. Without a doubt, this year’s Family Science Night and Fair lived up to its theme!
